The Fallen Soldier

This morning, I woke up to Kaitlyn yelling to get up out of bed. So Shara kindly got up to take care of her so I could get a little extra sleep (much needed sleep). To my dismay, however, she came into the bedroom a minute later saying, "Ummm, you better come look at this". Aparently, my tree had fallen over onto the neighbor's truck. So I hurried and got dressed and went outside to assess the damage.

Luckily, the tree had not completely fallen on top of the neighbors truck, and had not caused any damage!!!!! However, it had completely severed itself from the roots (at the base of the tree) and when I pulled it away from the truck, it made the neighbor's tree sling shot back up. Theirs is still up, strong, and doing well. I bet there would have been more damage if the other tree had not broken the fall.

So, this post goes out to you, oh brave soldier. You have weathered 5 years of storms, and blocked many a UV ray from hitting my car in the blistering heat. You didn't even get any pay for it. In fact, you have been chopped at, trimmed, pushed around, and all you got was a little water every day (and not every day for that matter). You (and your shade) will be very sorely missed every time I get into my scorching hot car.
