The World of News

So, the other day I was watching the news (I need to do less of this, because it's easy to get lost in the middle of TV, only to realize that 3 hours have passed by before I know it). On the news there was this headline that made me really wonder what kind of world we live in. Anyone familiar with the news will know exactly what I'm talking about, but I wonder if anyone else has thought this same thing. I don't have an exact quote right now, so I'll paraphrase and make things up to get my point across (and believe me, it won't be too exaggerated).

Headline/News Catchphrase:
Shocking news tonight at 10: Technology exists that allows people to track your every move. Predators can find out exactly where you are at any time of day, even when your cell phone is turned off. Are you in Danger? Watch tonight at 10.

Okay, lets think about this for a second. Is it possible that cell phones can have some sort of GPS device located inside them that allow for tracking. Absolutely, that is what makes cell phones so useful... maps, gps, etc. Is it possible for someone to then track your every move? Sure, if you have that technology. Does it put someone in danger? Possibly. But WHY IN THE WORLD do I have to put everything off and wait until 10 pm to hear this story? (not to mention the fact that it will most likely be the last story they cover in their 30 minute news reel). If it was this urgent, and my life is at stake because of this technology, don't you think the story should be broadcast a little more than just tonight at 10? Don't get me wrong... probably 99.9% of all news stories are put online... but they are SO interested in obtaining raitings, and being the ONLY news station to cover that HOT story headline, that they have to limit the amount of exposure there is to a story that could possibly save someone's life.

It makes me SICK! I'm tired of news stations being so caught up in obtaining ratings that they won't share the important stuff when it really matters. It doesn't matter to them that I have to work tonight at 10, or that I may even be in bed tonight at 10. The important thing is to restrict the important news access and get as many people as possible to become couch potatoes watching hours and hours of TV and news every night.

What kind of world do we live in?
